Bay to Birdwood Classic Celebrates a Milestone in Motoring History
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the world’s largest continually staged
motoring event and to celebrate the occasion the Bay to Birdwood Classic will
travel right through the City of Adelaide on its 70 km journey to the National
Motor Museum at Birdwood.
The first vehicles will leave Adelaide Shores at 9am and lead the cavalcade
along Tapleys Hill Road to Anzac Highway turning into Greenhill Road. Once
into Peacock Road the procession will make its way along to King William Street
and travel through to North Terrace where vehicles will turn right and continue
to Hackney Road. Here the parade will adopt the normal route along NorthEast Road
to Tea Tree Gully. At the Haines Road and Perserverence Road intersection the
route will become one way right through to Birdwood.
This years Bay to Birdwood Classic event to be staged on Sunday 25th September
will see a record field of vehicles built between 1955 and 1975. From the early
model Holdens, fiery Fords, swish Jags and sexy sports cars, tens of thousands
of spectators who line the 70 km route will be in for a real treat as history
and a glimpse of their past drive by. Over 1750 buses, trucks, motor cycles
and every type of car imaginable from the mid-fifties, sixties and early
seventies will be cleaned polished and in tip top condition for the one big
day of the year.
Many of the entrants, their passengers and even the spectators along the route
dress in accordance with the era of the event so there is no doubt we will spy
The Beetles, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy and Tiny Tim somewhere during the day.
The public is invited to have breakfast with the cars at Adelaide Shores, line
the route or join in the great fun family day at the finish at the National
Motor Museum at Birdwood.
The Bay to Birdwood Classic – it’s more than just about old cars!!!!
