Bay to Birdwood Celebrates 25 years of Motoring History
This years South Australian Bay to Birdwood event will mark a milestone in the history of the long running icon event. Already renowned as the world’s most continually staged historic motoring event, this year the motoring cavalcade will take to the streets on Sunday September 25 - making it 25 years since its inaugural run.
The Bay to Birdwood began in 1980 with a field of 637 vehicles and now 25 years later the event attracts well over 1700 vehicles from all parts of Australia and overseas.
The Bay to Birdwood Run for veteran, vintage and early classic vehicles was originally held every second year but since 1997 the Bay to Birdwood Classic has been staged on the alternate year to the Run. This year is the fifth Bay to Birdwood Classic, for vehicles built on or after January 1, 1955 and are more than 30 years old.
Organisers of the 2005 event are expecting record entries and they say many interstate and overseas entrants will take advantage of the “Cruising Classics” fortnight of motoring which is staged the week prior to, and the week following the Bay to Birdwood Classic. This exciting extension to the main event will enable visitors to our state to spend an exciting time participating in well-organised day trips around the beautiful hills, beach, historic and wine growing regions of South Australia.
